App Creation Contest

Have a great idea for an app? Why not enter the House App Contest! " This year marks the first annual Congressional Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Academic Competition, the “House App Contest.”  This new competition is designed to engage student’s creativity and encourage their participation in STEM education fields.  Established by Members of the U.S. House of Representatives in 2013, this competition is a nationwide event that allows high school students from across the country to compete by creating and exhibiting their software application, or “app,” for mobile, tablet, or computer devices on a platform of their choice.  Throughout the completion period, participating students will be provided opportunities to engage with various STEM educational partners located within the community to mentor and assist them with their app development."  This competition is open to high schoolers whose House representative has opted into the program. The Library is holding a contest to design our annual 4th of July t-shirt!!!  Your design needs to be 8"x10", and must be all in one color. The design needs to have plenty of places for the kids to embellish with fabric pens, t-shirt paint and glitter.  You need to include the words  "Coronado Library" "4th of July" and "2014" in your shirt design.   Designs and the design contest coupon must be submitted to the library by April 30, 2014.  Coupons with the rules and more information are available at the library!

Love Google Doodles?

Google is having a competition open to students in K-12th grade to create your own Google Doodle! The theme this year is " If I Could Invent One Thing to Make the World a Better Place…". Use your imagination to create something that might end up being featured on the Google home page! Prizes include scholarship money and more! Entries are grouped by grade into 5 categories: K-3, 4-6, 6-7, 8-9, &10-12.  For more information check out the  Doodle 4 Google  web page!  Rules and entry regulations can be found  here .  The deadline to submit an entry is March 20th!
